The Eurovision Song Contest
They first rose to fame in 1974 with there winning song Waterloo on the Eurovision song contest and although they had already found success in Sweden since 1972, it wasn’t until 1974 that the world took notice.
For the next ten years, ABBA would churn out hit after hit with musical arrangements by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. They also created their own sound, which involved doubling up the sound. This involved laying the original recording on top of itself to create a thicker sound.
Mamma Mia Reached No1 In 1975
Between 1972 and 1982, ABBA had over twenty UK chart hits of which nine reached No 1. Mamma Mia reached No1 in 1975. That’s over thirty years before the hit film of the same name.
There have been many rumours about the group reuniting for another tour but Benny Andersson has categorically stated that they will never reunite. While he and the rest of the group are happy for their music to live on, they feel the group belongs in the seventies.
